The video is inspired by the work of the Ukrainian microbiologist Sergei Winogradsky. In the years 1893-’95, Winogradsky succeeded in isolating the beneficial microbes responsible for the process of separating flax fibers from the plant stems, as described in his text “Le Microbiologie du Sol” (“Le Rouissage du Lin” chapter).

The visuals are all drawn from the traditional and industrial production process of linen, manifesting its cultural importance throughout history.
